NCI PRAWLE POINT ASSIST WITH RESCUE OF YACHT

3rd July 2022. The volunteer watchkeepers at the National Coastguard Institution station at Prawle Point assisted HM Coastguard at Falmouth with the rescue of a yacht in distress,

A spokesperson from NCI Prawle Point takes up the story “We heard a PAN PAN message on Marine VHF radio Channel 16 from a yacht drifting immediately to the South East of Bolt Head with no form of propulsion. We plotted the given position and were able to spot the casualty vessel. We gave an accurate bearing and distance to Falmouth Coastguard who tasked Salcombe lifeboat ro attend.. We maintained observations on the yacht and advised HM Coastguard that the vessel was drifting away from the danger of rocks off Bolt Head. The lifeboat reached the vessel, and checked around the hull, before passing a tow, and drogue., The vessel was then towed over Salcombe Bar, where the harbour launch could assist it onto its mooring”.
