18th March 2021. NCI St Ives is assisting a research project being undertaken by the Joint Maritime Security Centre (JMSC) to track and improve the understanding of activity in the seas around the UK.
A new Mobile Sensor Suite has been installed on the roof of the station on The Island overlooking St Ives.Five sites were established on headlands around the UK by Sirius Insight, a data analytics company which focuses on the maritime sector, and they have now moved one to St Ives at the request of JMSC.
Station manager Helen Simpson said: “The NCI is committed to assisting in the function of safeguarding all users of the sea and we were very agreeable to assisting with this by enabling the equipment, which is safe and unobtrusive, to be placed on our roof. It is hoped that future collaboration with the company will not only benefit the NCI but all those using the St Ives Bay area."
