WATCHKEEPERS SON RUNS A SOLO IRONMAN FOR NCI PORTHCAWL

3rd October 2020. The son of one of our watchkeepers ran a Solo Ironman today and raised funds for NCI Porthcawl station in the process.

John Price, son of a Porthcawl NCI watchkeeper and roster officer Anne, ran a solo Ironman event on Sat 3rd October and raised funds for Porthcawl NCI. The 2.4 mile swim was overseen by the duty watchkeepers who opened the station 3 hours early at 0700hrs for the event. This was followed by a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run in only what can be described as “challenging” conditions. John has originally trained for the Barcelona Ironman but as that was cancelled, decided to run this – his seventh Ironman –and agreed to raise funds for the station In the process.

Supported by his colleagues from his Triathlon club Aim 2 Tri, friends, family, off duty watchkeepers and the Open Water Swimmer community, John completed his Ironman in just over 14 hours and to date has raised £1585 with donations still coming in. To add to this, a local businessman has pledged a further £1000 for which we are most grateful.

Our fundraising efforts have been severely curtailed this year and we are grateful to John for the opportunity to raise some much-needed funds.
