3rd September 2022. The newly refurbished National Coastwatch Institution station at Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk, was formally opened by Duncan Baker MP and NCI Chairman Clive Pouncey.
The refurbishment was completed on-time and within budget. Extensive structural rebuilding, supervised by Watchkeeper Peter Keesom, was followed by complete internal refurbishment., with the latter work undertaken by Wells Watchkeepers.
Station Manager Tony Goddard was delighted with the work that the volunteers had carried out and said: “A gang of four worked very hard to do this: DSM Peter Stanbridge; Roster Manager John Tookey, Admin Officer Tony Eyre; and myself. Without us, this would have cost thousands of extra pounds if we had to hire more contractors."
The refurbishment was funded not only by public donations, but also by North Norfolk District Council, Holkham Estate, the Wells Harbourmaster and NCI central funds. Also invited to this opening were Station Development Trustee, Chris Aps, who oversaw the project together with NCI Head of Operations, Linda Lawrence.
