12th January 2022. Last week, the volunteers from the National Coastwatch Institution station at Torbay heard Solent Coastguard broadcast on Channel 0 tasking the Inshore Lifeboat to a paddleboarder in distress at Thatcher's Point.
The NCI Torbay watchkeepers undertook a visual search and quickly spotted an abandoned paddleboard on Thatcher’s Point and advised Solent Coastguard. After further scanning, they again contacted Solent Coastguard to inform them that the casualty had been spotted some 50 metres along the rocks. This information was relayed by Solent Coastguard to RNLI Torbay who were able to rescue the paddleboarder and collect the paddleboard before returning them, safe and well, on Meadfoot Beach.
Another instance of great co-operation (and a good result) by all SAR parties involved.
