NCI ST IVES OVERLOOKS THE G7 SUMMIT IN CORNWALL.

15th June 2025. World leaders attended the G7 Summit in Carbis Bay last weekend and while the eyes of the world were focussed on the event, NCI St Ives station also reached a world-wide audience.

NCI St Ives overlooks St Ives Bay and Carbis Bay and maintained a safety watch throughout the four-day summit meeting. The security restrictions around this picturesque area caused some difficulties for the duty watchkeepers getting to and from their station and the station was manned by watchkeepers who could walk to the station. Despite this, the event was peaceful. Many demonstrators had camped near the station but the overall atmosphere was good natured. The St Ives team were kept busy monitoring the holidaymakers enjoying the sun on St Ives beaches and watching the navy and police vessels, with the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales providing a stunning backdrop. There were also many aircraft operating in the area with a display by the Red Arrows providing a finale to the event.

News teams from the BBC and other networks recorded interviews just below the lookout so the NCI has also been seen internationally.

Station Manager Helen Simpson said “A successful weekend with no problems. It was quieter than we expected but there were plenty of vessels in the bay to keep us going. We had lots of visits from the police checking we were ok and we even received a donation of £20.  “.
