19th April 2022. On Saturday, NCI Porthdinllaen station was contacted by HM Coastguard Holyhead following reports of two people clinging to the hull of an upturned dinghy near Pistyll.
From the elevated coastal position of the station, Acting Station Manager Andy and Watchkeeper Chris conducted a visual search of the area and located the dinghy. They were able to maintain observations on both the dinghy and the two persons clinging to it. The vital information of their location was passed onto the Coastguard and the RNLI Porthdinllaen All Weather Lifeboat was tasked and launched.
As the lifeboat made its way to the area, the volunteer watchkeepers were able to accurately direct the lifeboat crew to the exact location of the dinghy. Both casualties were rescued and returned to shore safe and sound. Two Helicopters were also scrambled from Caernarvon and Dublin but both were stood down before they arrived, once the casualties were pulled from the water and assessed.
An excellent example of the fantastic teamwork between all three SAR organisations - HM Coastguard, NCI and RNLI.
