NCI PORTHCAWL ASSIST WITH RESCUE OF TWO RIDERS.

26th August 2021. The volunteers of the National Coastwatch Institution station at Porthcawl assisted in the rescue of two horse riders who had come off their horses while riding in the sand dunes near Bridgend.

 NCI Porthcawl were asked to assist in locating the casualties and the Welsh Ambulance Service was called to the scene around 4pm where they assessed the casualties. Further assistance was requested from the Coastguard who dispatched teams from the Porthcawl and Llantwit Major Coastguard, and a coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon to assist with the recovery.

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "At around 4.40pm yesterday, Porthcawl and Llantwit Major Coastguard Rescue Teams, the Porthcawl National Coastwatch Institution and the coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon were sent to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service following a report that two horse riders had been thrown from their horses in Merthyr Mawr dunes. The casualties were assessed by paramedics and evacuated to hospital by the helicopter."
