NCI NELLS POINT ASSIST IN THE RESCUE OF A COLLAPSED WALKER

7th December 2021. Last Saturday, the watchkeepers at the National Coastwatch Institution Nell's Point station monitored a radio call on Channel 0 paging Penarth CRT after a member of the public reported seeing a walker collapsed face down in a pool on Sully Island.

A visual scan of Sully Island identified 3 persons and a dog on the Southern and Western side of the island and the watchkeepers contacted Milford Haven Coastguard who requested to monitor the situation. The casualty was observed being assisted by two people and the volunteer watchkeepers updated Milford Haven Coastguard with their position and confirmed the causeway covering time. The Penarth Coastguard Rescue Team arrived on scene and after assessing the casualty, called for an ambulance. making them aware of potential water inhalation following the casualty’s collapse due to a fit and that the casualty was in a survival bag. The Ambulance arrived and casualty was removed to hospital a mere 8 minutes before the causeway was covered.

Milford Haven Coastguard subsequently called NCI Nell's Point to thank the Watchkeepers for all their help.
