20th February 2022. The volunteers of the National Coastwatch Institution station at Mablethorpe have featured in television interviews twice in three days
On Thursday 17th February, NCI Mablethorpe received a phone call from ITV Calendar News asking if they would be able to give an interview regarding the predicted storm Eunice due on Friday 18th. The station readily accepted the opportunity for publicity and on Friday afternoon the television crew arrived as agreed and met with Malcom Drewery, NCI Mablethorpe’s PR Officer. That evening, the local ITV news put together and broadcast an interesting segment about Storm Eunice which featured Malcom and provided good publicity for NCI.
The following day (Saturday 19th) Malcom stood the morning watch and Station Manager Rob Druce relieved him for the afternoon watch. As Rob explained, ” I arrived at the Station to take over from the AM watch only to walk in to a film crew interviewing Malcom. It turned out to be a BBC Look North team, who had just knocked on the door and asked could they do a a piece on us and the storm (maybe the BBC had seen the ITV interview the night before or just a coincidence, who knows?). The interview was broadcast on BBC Local Look North evening news on Saturday evening and again was a good segment. Incidentally the storm didn't cause us any problems, being South Westerly on the east coast, and the sea state remained moderate with the wind gusting up to 70 mph.”
