NCI GWENNAP HEAD EXERCISE WITH STEAMSHIP GROUP

19th July 2022. Practice makes perfect, especially practising for the unexpected incidents our volunteer watchkeepers can get involved with.

Like the team at the National Coastwatch Institution station at Gwennap who take every chance to work collaboratively with their local stakeholders. Today they had the opportunity to assist with an emergency response exercise conducted by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group. The objective of the exercise was to practise the Steamship Group’s Shipping Emergency Response Plan.

The scenario was started by the NCI Gwennap duty watchkeeper reporting the erratic behaviour of a small vessel leading to the crew of the supply ship Gry Maritha responding to a planned scenario. The Gry Maritha is a supply ship operated by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group as a bulk freight transport from the United Kingdom mainland to the islands. A second part of the exercise saw the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group Shipping Incident Response Team being gathered. NCI Gwennap Head look forward to further opportunities of exercises with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group.
