NCI FILEY OPENS FOR FIRST OFFICIAL WATCH.

15th July 2022. Friday marked the start of more eyes along the Coast in the North-East

At 09:00 on a warm, dry but overcast morning the new station based at Royal Parade in Filey opened up for its first official day on watch. Making the station ready were Watchkeeper Gerry Greene, an experienced watchkeeper from the National Coastwatch Institution station at Hornsea, and Watchkeeper in training Stephen Husband from Filey.

Once the  station opening checklist had been completed and Watchkeeper in training Mark Moore from Filey had joined  the team, the all-important call to the HM Humber Coastguard was made at 09:30 to confirm the station was operational and on watch. After a warm welcome from the Coastguard the watch officially began, and a new additional level of protection began in Filey.

The station is now on watch every Friday from 09:30 until 17:30 and will increase the number of watch days as more volunteers join and are trained.
