12th October 2020. Last week the volunteers from the National Coastwatch Institution station at Exmouth visited Bicton College to give a socially distanced presentation,
Three of the volunteer watchkeepers explained the role of the NCI in Search and Rescue and how NCI provides the eyes and ears of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to a group of students studying a Diploma in Uniformed Public Service. In the coming weeks, they will return to the colleges to hold a further two seminars for first-year degree students learning about the relationship between statutory services and the volunteer sector in emergency response.
Exmouth NCI station manager Ivor Jones said “Working with Bicton College is a great example of sharing local knowledge, experience and expertise. Safety at sea is not just something students can learn about on the TV but is also a daily reality on the Exmouth coastline.”
