7th February 2022. Today, members of the National Coastwatch Institution station at Calshot Tower were busy helping to plant trees in Lepe Country Park.
The trees were planted along the edge of the track which runs close behind the NCI Stone Point station (visible in the photo), which is a satellite station of NCI Calshot Tower. The twenty-three trees planted represented the first batch of well over 100 new pines being planted in the Country Park over the next few days.
The trees planted are Austrian/Corsican Pine, the Black Pine (Pinus Nigra). These, trees are conical in shape when young, but will mature to look similar to the established pines which are such an iconic feature of the Lepe landscape.
