12th July 2022. The National Coastwatch Institution celebrates its annual National Coastwatch Day on Sunday 24 July.
As a declared asset of HM Coastguard, the NCI acts as their local eyes and ears along our coastline. NCI is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation founded in 1994 and today there is a network of 58 NCI stations around the coast of England and Wales and they are staffed by 2,600 trained, uniformed watchkeepers all of whom are volunteers.
To mark National Coastwatch Day, many stations are hosting local events and activities. A typical event is the Family Fun Day being organised by NCI Newhaven between 11am and 4pm on Sunday 24 July from 11.00am until 4.00pm at Huggetts Green, in Newhaven. As well as several stalls highlighting NCI activities there are dozens of stalls and activities for young and old, food stalls and retail activities as well as live music.
Please contact your local station to discover what they are doing to celebrate National Coastwatch Day. Better still, why not visit your local station – you will be made most welcome.
