12th September 2022. This has been a busy summer for the National Coastwatch Institution station at Mablethorpe. As well as their regular and frequent local fundraising collections, the volunteers of NCI Mablethorpe also attended some special events during the summer of 2022.
The first of these was the two day ‘Lancs and Tanks’ event, held in June at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby where meeting the public and raising funds was a success. In July, along with members of the NCI Stations at Skegness, Chapel Point and Brancaster, NCI Mablethorpe spent the day practising ‘conning on’ at Rutland Water Sailing Club. Spokesman Malcolm Drewery said “Each year the club kindly allows us to use the sailing club’s two rescue R.I.B.’s and their coxswains for the day as lifeboats to rescue footballs, placed in the water to represent casualties. Each watchkeeper gets a turn in the boat and with good weather and a beautiful setting it’s a really great day out”. Michael added “Later that month, National Coastwatch Day was celebrated on 24th July, when we were joined by the Mayor of Mablethorpe and his Deputy, RNLI, Police, RAFA and several craft stalls. Finally, we attended the RNLI Day on August 1st on the promenade at Mablethorpe where, as well as meeting the public and further strengthening our relationship with the RLNI, local police, HM Coastguard and the local Coastguard Rescue Team, our Water Safety Officer got his message across to members of the public about water safety”.
